N.B. Some dictionaries use symbols for representing the pronunciation of words which are very different from those used in Basic English Phonetics for Teachers ( see above) and in school textbooks. It is important that you have ready access to a dictionary which uses the symbols that you will use during the course and when you teach English in schools. In addition to those recommended above, http://www.dictionary.cambridge.org/ uses these symbols and provides both British and American pronunciation.
