Lending Regulations

(Approved by the Study Director in June 2010)
Borrowing from any Sør-Trøndelag University College library requires that you are familiar with and accept these regulations.

Rights and obligations:

Borrowing
HiST libraries are primarily for University College staff and students. In order to borrow, students must possess a valid student card or Id-card as well as a receipt for payment of term fees.
External borrowers can apply individually.

Failure to respect lending regulations may result in withdrawal of borrowing privileges.

Loans are normally for a period of 4 weeks. Libraries may stipulate shorter periods. A loan can be renewed provided the item has not been reserved. There may be restrictions related to the document type or special collections, i.e. books on the reading list, dvd's and audio books. Items or copies of items not owned by the library can be borrowed from other libraries. The length of the loan is determined by the lending library. For interlibrary loans, students and staff should use the library at their own college.
Libraries may charge for copies and interlibrary loans.

Borrowers’ obligations
Students are personally responsible for ensuring that addresses and telephone numbers on StudWeb are updated and accurate. For students, it is their HiST e-mail address which is relevant. Students are also responsible for checking their student e-mail account regularly.
All items which are removed from the library must be registered as a loan.

The borrower is personally responsible for everything which is registered on the borrowing card and must not lend items borrowed from the library to others. Items which are damaged or lost must be replaced in line with library rules and rates. Loans must be returned within the borrowing period. After three reminders, the library is entitled to send a replacement demand. Borrowers may request a receipt for items which they return personally.

Borrowers from the library are responsible for respecting current legal regulations e.g. The Copyright Law (Lov om opphavsrett).

Liability
Any claim for damages/replacement must cover both the value of the relevant item as well as expenses incurred in purchase and registration of the replacement. The library retains ownership of replaced items. The borrower is liable for expenses incurred in case of legal debt collecting.
