Admission

It is possible to apply for admission to studies at HiST as an exchange student or as a degree-seeking student. Your options are more closely described on these pages. If you are not able to find answer to your questions, you are welcome to contact us by e-mail: international@hist.no

Degree-seeking applicants holding a secondary education from one of the other Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland or Sweden), will find suitable information on the web-site of NUCAS (Norwegian Universities and College Admission Service).

International student

Who is an international student? Most international students at Sør-Trøndelag University College are exchange students within the framework of Nordic and European exchange programmes or bilateral agreements. (See Exchange Programmes and application procedures.)

International self-financed students may also apply for admission to degree programmes if they fulfil the Norwegian language requirements. Please note that the Norwegian admission system is primarily for Norwegian citizens and others with a permanent or renewable residence permit.

The Norwegian Quota Scheme is a funding scheme offered by the Norwegian Government to students from developing countries, countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Only students from our partner universities in these countries are accepted as quota students, and they must apply through their home institutions. We do not recruit students through agents.

Funding

There are not tutition fees to be payed at Norwegian State University Colleges, but students from abroad must be able to provide documentation showing they have enough money to cover living expences. Students admitted through the Quota Programme or exchange programmes such as Nordplus and LLL/Erasmus are not required to submit proof of sufficient funding for their stay in Norway.

All other students, including those on bilateral agreements not covered by the European programmes mentioned above, are responsible for financing their own studies. The Immigration Authorities require documentation showing how the period of study being applied for will be financed. You must document funds of NOK 81,400 (approx 10000 Euro) for the 2009/10 academic year. Please contact your local Norwegian embassy for more information.
